Germany Hotels and Resorts - As Europe's largest economy and most populous nation, Germany remains a key member of the continent's economic, political, and defense organizations. European power struggles immersed Germany in two devastating World Wars in the first half of the 20th century and left the country occupied by the victorious Allied powers of the US, UK, France, and the Soviet Union in 1945. With the advent of the Cold War, two German states were formed in 1949: the western Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the eastern German Democratic Republic (GDR). The democratic FRG embedded itself in key Western economic and security organizations, the EC, which became the EU, and NATO, while the Communist GDR was on the front line of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact. The decline of the USSR and the end of the Cold War allowed for German unification in 1990. Since then, Germany has expended considerable funds to bring Eastern productivity and wages up to Western standards. In January 1999, Germany and 10 other EU countries introduced a common European exchange currency, the euro.

ACCOMMODATION: Cylinders and circles - inspired by the geometry of the watertower itself - are the striking elements in the formal language of its interior architecture. Dark African hardwoods contrast with the coarse earthiness of the masonry; an effect of transparent limpidity is created by the lamps of sintered glass.

Every single item of furniture, every single accessory bears the personal hallmark of French designer Andrée Putman. The consistency of her design is matched by the comprehensiveness of the range of services offered by the hotel.

The unique spatial impression evoked by the maisonettes is surpassed only by the majesty of the suites and the Presidential suite. In addition to lounge, bedroom and bathroom, the suite also includes a study and dining room. As in all the rooms throughout the building, the hotel’s cultural standards are represented here too by works of contemporary artists.

HOTEL FACILITIES & SERVICES: The spectrum of service available is rounded off by sauna, solarium, fitness and massage parlour. The interior is characterized by small unexpected details throughout, the bathrooms being no exeption.

Since the 1st of April 2002, our new head chef, Hendrick Otto, has been showing his abilities in the Restaurant im Wasserturm, producing classical French food with a Mediterranean twist. One could say: “...the ‘highest’ cooking in Cologne…,“ with wonderful views of the city from our 11th floor roof terrace. As would be expected a comprehensive selection of fine wines have been chosen to compliment our menu.

Our restaurant now offers a new lunch menu. Working on the ethos: “light, fine & fast”, high quality, seasonal products are freshly prepared and created into lighter courses, naturally Hendrick Otto remains faithful to his culinary style and high standards, while endeavouring to produce an excellent price for this level of cooking, starters vary from € 8,00 to € 12,00 and main courses from € 16,00 to € 18,00.
