Belgium Hotels and Resorts - If Belgium's spotlight on the European stage is a little dim, it's only because its people are rarely boastful. This slow-burning country has more history, art, food and architecture packed into its tiny self than many of its bigger, louder neighbours.

A rich and bubbling vat of beer, chocolate, oil paint and bureaucrats, Belgium gives off the heady pong of the bourgeoisie. But stir the pot a little and you'll find an 'artificial state' roughly made up of two parts Germanic Flemings to one part Celtic-Latin Walloons.

Divided by pride first and language second, the country's binding agents are a pervasive sense of family and an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit. Visitors, lulled by the locals' friendliness, will probably not even notice the tensions that spark across the Linguistic Divide.

Radisson SAS Hotel Brussels
Rue du Fossé-aux-Loups 47 B-1000 Brussels - Belgium
Hotel Rating:

The city of Brussels is full of attractions and events all year round and our hotel lies in the heart of this animated city. The famous Grand Place is just a short stroll from the hotel and houses the 15th century Gothic City Hall and an extraordinary ensemble of Baroque facades. It is surrounded by a labyrinth of small streets, which are lined with shops offering Brussels' famous lace, typical Belgian restaurants, boutiques and centuries of history.

Under a splendid glass vault, the St Hubert Arcades (the oldest in Europe) are lined with buildings having pure neo-classical facades. Strolling through the Arcades, you will find many superb shops, bookstores, furriers and design stores and emerge just below the imposing towers of St Michel Cathedral, one of the glories of Brabant Gothic.

Manneken-Pis, the most famous little boy in the world, has more than six hundred and fifty costumes. He is only a few minutes walk from the hotel.

One of Brussels' best-known symbols is the Atomium. It represents a gigantic iron molecule and is the only reminder of the 1958 World Exposition.
